This week’s episode of Shake and Date took us to Skipolini’s. We were a little hesitant on frequenting this establishment because their website offered no information as to whether they even had a Happy Hour, but we took a chance, and guess what? (Drumroll please…) They do! We got there armed with my mini composition book to take notes in, and here are our findings.
First of all, you have to flip through their multi-paged menu to get to the very last page to find their Happy Hour menu. We went into this thinking we’d order a pizza, but alas, there were no pizzas to find. However, there were other tasty sounding options to choose from. We settled on ordering the artichoke dip and the Asiago fries. Both of these choices did not disappoint (although in our opinion, the fries could have been a little bit crispier). The artichoke dip was so fantastic, I ended up eating the remains of it after we ran out of the bread it came with, with just my fork (the bartender did actually offer to get us more bread once we ran out, however, the button on my jeans was already threatening to blow off and puncture a hole in the bar at this point, so we declined). The fancy cocktails we got were the Tahoe Breeze and the Cherry Bomb. And let me tell you, the Cherry Bomb, was the BOMB! Sorry, I couldn’t resist that one. They also have deep fried greenbeans on the menu (which I realized after the fact), so we’ll be returning to try those out. I was excited to discover that since both of my go to places for them are no longer an option. FLB doesn’t have these on their menu anymore, and Elephant Bar, sadly, closed down. We also want to return to try their famous “Prego Pizza”. Not because I’m pregnant…it just sounds good. I’m fairly confident it won’t have the opposite affect on me and cause me to become pregnant, but the nightmare…I mean, thought, did actually cross my mind (shudder).
The bar there has a decent amount of seating, and they also offer a good sized outdoor area you can sit at once the weather warms up and is less rainy (it will happen eventually, right??) They also have a play structure out there for those of you who are not empty nesters (or about to no longer be empty nesters after ordering the Prego Pizza). Right now I would mention the fact that there was no music playing, but Courtney, our bartend, actually brought up the fact that their music was on the fritz and they were expecting someone in an hour to show up and fix it. So until our next visit, I cannot comment about their music selection. Courtney, by the way, was fabulous. Very friendly and attentive.
For those of you who have not been to Skipolini’s, navigating to there can be a bit tricky. If you’re heading West down Blue Ravine, you want to make a left turn at the light at Natoma Station Dr. and then right into the parking lot to go past Dolan’s and the other businesses that are there. If you miss that light and find yourselves at Folsom Boulevard, there’s no u-turn allowed, so you’ll be left with a choice of going straight until you can find a spot to turn around, go left onto Folsom Boulevard and travel all the way to where the other side of Natoma Station is located, or you do as the many people do at E. Bidwell and Iron Point, and make that illegal u-turn (which I wouldn’t recommend…especially after the lightrail is back up and running). If you’re heading East on Blue Ravine, you’ll have no issue of turning right, straight into the parking lot.
You will definitely want to navigate your way to there because the final verdict is, Skipolini’s Happy Hour gets the thumbs up!
Oh, one final thing. I forgot to mention last week, and in case you didn’t notice, I made the hat…and he’s wearing it. 🙂

Great post with perfect information. Thank you for the great review. I frequent the bar as I go to pick up our pizza monthly. The draft beer is still pouring perfect since I installed that system after Tahoe Joes closed down. We have yet to have the Prego Pizza but like you, it sounds delicious and haven’t been able to step away from their Combo. On my next visit I will be ordering the Prego.
Well done, Ryan! I forgot to add they have a couple of their own draft beers. I would have tried one after our cocktail, but again, the button on my jeans situation was getting scary lol.
I’m glad it’s raining there. ; )
The email auto-filled wrong; It’s yahoo, not AOL. And, why does the time say 11:36 PM when it was actually 4:36 PM? Am I in the Twilight Zone?
I’m not sure why the time on my posts is so far off! The only thing I can figure is the plug-in I use is based from somewhere other than the U.S.
I noticed the hat first thing! 😉
Nice!!
The Habit has deep fried green beans. They are delicious. Thanks for putting in the work! Definitely is helpful!
