Red Bus Brewing Company

As soon as we walked in through the door at Red Bus Brewing Company we were greeted with “Ah, Shake and Date is here. Are you visiting us today?” (Or something like that…I probably shouldn’t have used quotes.) And once again I got a big ol’ stupid grin on my face feeling like a partial celebrity. I’m so easily amused. Now for those of you who have been to Red Bus, you may be asking right now, “They’re a brewery without a kitchen…why would you go there for your Happy Hour adventures?” And there’s a few different answers to that question. One (and it’s a simple obvious one), it shook out of the bottle; Two, it’s within easy scootability distance from home and we’re always down for a scoot; And three, when I originally posted about Shake and Date, the owner of Red Bus commented that they were ready for us to go there and to come on over. So how could we not? If anyone at this point is stuck on my use of the word scootability, there’s no need to look it up to see if it’s an actual word. It’s not. I just made it up and am now desperately trying to ignore the bright red, angry, squiggly line that is underneath it. Twice now.

For those of you who have not been there, Red Bus Brewing Company is located in kind of a hidden location towards the end of Reading Street in a little business district. It’s a very cute brewery with all kinds of interesting and cool décor to entertain your eyes. Especially if you are a car enthusiast. They have a scattering of beers to try and at least one type of cider, all cleverly named. Brian went with “Crossing State Lines” which was a lager, and I chose “Birra Romeo” which was an Italian pilsner. We both enjoyed our selections enough to follow up with another one. And truth be told, as we were about to polish of our first beers it dawned on me I had forgotten to take our picture (I think the partial celebrity giddiness was still consuming my thoughts), so we basically had to have another one, right? When it was time to take our picture with our full beers I realized I was sitting on the wrong side of Brian and was potentially going to struggle a bit taking the photo. Eric Schmid, who is the owner of Red Bus, graciously offered to take the photo for us under the conditions he receive photo credit. So thank you Eric, and to you I give sincere gratitude and credit!

Red Bus may not offer a Happy Hour, but they do offer plenty of other forms of entertainment. They have live music on Fridays, themed trivia nights on Mondays, a little arcade located in the back and also hold special events. One such special event is coming up soon on June 8th where Erik Estrada, the former star of the hit T.V. show “CHiPs” is making an appearance representing a new beer  being released called “Erik E-Strata” (see, clever names). Not only will he be there, Eric (with a “c”…the owner of Red Bus, not the T.V. star) managed to acquire one of the CHP motorcycles that was on the show, and it will be on display during the event. We got the pleasure of checking it out while we were there, which was super cool! I’ll post a picture of it below, but nothing is like seeing it in real life, so you should go check it out and meet Erik Estrada! (This is a ticketed event, so if you are interested you can get your ticket here: https://www.redbusbrew.com/events.)

As far as food goes, they do have a regular pizza truck there Thursday – Sunday evenings and sometimes on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. We’ve had the pizza there before and it was delicious! Rumor has it…Red Bus is putting in a permanent pizza location there (in a sea container…how cool is that!!??) and are redoing/expanding their outdoor patio for a whole new Red Bus experience.

Overall, I would recommend frequenting Red Bus Brewing Company if you haven’t already. Everyone was super friendly while we were there and you definitely are made to feel welcomed. If you go, tell them Shake and Date sent you…or not…but it would keep me on that giddy partial celebrity status high if you do.
