Iron Horse Tavern

Last week I was in Raley’s and I had a lady stop me to ask if I was part of the Shake and Date couple. We chatted for a moment about the site and one of the reasons it had been on hiatus as of late. She shared with me she enjoys reading it and that it’s been missed. This really made my day. Honestly. It also inspired me to suggest to Brian we get back to having our date nights. So we have. Thank you so much Shelly (please let that be your name…FYI, I’m terrible with names) for that brief encounter while shopping for groceries. It truly meant a lot to me.

This was not my first visit to Iron Horse Tavern, but it was Brian’s. I had been there for dinner a few times and have always enjoyed the food. This was, however, my first time frequenting them for Happy Hour.  They have some pretty good offerings on their Happy Hour menu, including appetizers and pizzas for ½ off. Their specialty cocktails are $3 off, so we indulged in a Mustang Sally for me and a Saddle up for Brian. They both were very tasty. For an appetizer, we chose to share the Tuna Poke Nachos. Those were good, however they went a bit skimpy on the toppings which left us with just a bunch of naked wonton chips on our plate. If you’re into Tuna Poke Nachos, we would both recommend the ones from Scott’s Seafood over these. (Scott’s Seafood was pre-Shake and Date era, so in case you’re wondering, there is not a review of them on this website.) Otherwise, from Iron Horse I would recommend choosing any other of the yummy looking appetizers or pizzas that are offered.

The bar area is quite large at Iron Horse, so you shouldn’t have difficulty finding a spot to sit. We arrived around 4:30ish and it was fairly empty. It did start to fill in rather quickly though, so if you’re going to go don’t dilly dally too long over getting there. The bar top is pretty cool as it’s made from copper, but if you’re not okay with glass ring stains, you may not appreciate the style (truth be told, Brian was more into it than I was). There are TV’s situated around the bar if you’d like to take in some sports while you drink and dine. The bartenders were very attentive and friendly. I was asked if I’d like another drink before mine was completely gone and after I declined, she was back to ask again once it was empty. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any of their names to be able to give any kind of specific credit. (Clearly we’re out of practice for our Shake and Date Adventures.) Along with their fancy cocktails menu, they also provide a good selection of beers on tap (which are $1 off for the large size during Happy Hour).

Additional things about Iron Horse you may be interested to know, is they have plenty of parking which you can get straight into the lot without having to navigate your way through the Palladio. They also have a good sized outdoor dining area that is equipped with overhead heaters and fire pits for the chilly nights, and overhead fans for when you need to cool off. Once again our Shake and Date adventures have led us to discover another place we will definitely frequent again.

One last thing…if there’s any kind of information you feel I’m leaving out of my little reviews that you would like to know about the places we visit, please let me know in the comments. Until next time…
